Today I had lunch with a friend at Magpie Café, and man oh man, it was delish! The restaurant uses a mixture of organic, locally grown, and sustainable ingredients, to ensure everything is as fresh as possible. The meat they use is raised without hormones or antibiotics, and they refer to the ‘Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch’ list whenever they offer fish on the menu, to ensure it is the most sustainable. The menu consists of dishes that are native to the Northern California area, and changes periodically, as they only use ingredients that are currently in season.
I enjoyed the smoked trout sandwich ($8.50), with Meyer lemon, dill, capers, salad greens, and black pepper & herb cream cheese. Yum! I also had the bean salad, as a side ($1.50). All in all, I was very impressed. Not only was the food fresh and delicious, but you gotta love a business that cares about sustainability.
Magpie Café is owned by Sacramento natives, Janel Inouye and Ed Roehr. If you want to enjoy a healthy meal, and support a local business at the same time, head on down to Magpie Café, located at 1409 R Street, Suite 102. They also cater. (www.magpiecaterers.com/cafe)
