In January a blog that I follow (Vegan Beauty Review – I know, I’m not a vegan, but I discovered this blog when I was researching healthier body products and love it) did a review of a restaurant in LA – Mäni’s Bakery & Café. Well the timing was perfect, because my friend and I were in LA this past weekend (for Oprah’s After-the-Oscar’s Show – woo hoo!) I’m not too familiar with LA, so was glad to have a recommendation of a healthy place to check out.
We hit up Mäni’s for brunch on Sunday, and man oh man, it did not disappoint! I had the tofu scramble hash ($9), which was SO good! It was tofu with miso, asparagus, mushrooms, spinach, and tempeh bacon. I added vegan cheddar cheese to it, and had fruit as my side. It honestly didn’t taste like tofu and fake cheese. If I didn’t know any better, I would have thought it was real scrambled eggs with real cheese. The cheese was even all melty and stretched out between the fork and the scramble, just like real cheese would. I would definitely eat here again!
Mani’s uses local and sustainable sources for their ingredients, wherever they can. Their eggs are from grain fed, cage free chickens, raised on local ranches in Southern California. All the meat they use is free range, free of antibiotics and hormones, and raised and harvested sustainably. They have a lot of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options on the menu.
