I was down in Dana Point this week visiting family, and somehow we ended up at the mall. Trust me, it wasn’t my idea – I hate the mall. I find everything to be way overpriced. I can find the same things for less either in a consignment shop or on eBay. And I also don’t like having to push and shove my way through crowds to shop. It’s just not that serious to me.
But anyhow, we were walking through some department store (more like my cousins were dragging my limp, lifeless body through the store), and we passed by an Origins counter, and for whatever reason, I stopped to check it out. Now I have heard of Origins for years. I have never used any of their products though. I guess just because they are a department store brand, I assumed they would be full of naughty toxins, like the rest. Well again – you know what happens when you ASSume, right?
Apparently Origins is an all natural brand! I had no idea. Their slogan or motto is Powered by Nature. Proven by Science. They do not use propylene glycol, parabens, phthalates, petrolatum, mineral oil, paraffin, PABA, DEA, or animal ingredients. Instead, their products are made with natural, certified organic ingredients, 100% natural essential oils, and potent plants. They use renewable resources and wind energy in their manufacturing processes.
Origins also believes that part of personal health, involves caring for the health of the planet. Gotta love that. A year ago, they started a program called The Return to Origins Recycling Program. They started the program because 33% of all landfill waste comes from everyday packaging, and cosmetics are a big part of that. Through their program, customers can bring empty, unrecyclable cosmetic packages, bottles, tubes, etc. – regardless of the brand – to any Origins store or department store counter. They then send it to a central location, where it is either recycled or used for energy recovery.
Origins sells more than just body products. They also sell makeup. I’m interested in checking it out, since the Physician’s Formula Organic Wear makeup I’m using right now is pretty limited, as far as color selection goes. I’ll have to add Origins to my list. (www.origins.com)
