A couple of months ago I wrote about how I have been able to find healthier alternatives to all of my body care products, except deodorant. The first deodorant I tried was JASON Naturally Fresh Deodorant Stick for Women, which was a total fail. (See ‘Natural Deodorant – Strike 1’).
After that, I moved on to Kiss My Face Active Enzyme Deodorant. This deodorant does not contain aluminum, artificial colors, or animal ingredients. It is not tested on animals. It contains baking soda, clay, and a vegetable enzyme that neutralize and absorb odor. It is a solid deodorant stick, that goes on clear – which I like. However, it made my armpits feel sticky. When I lift my arm up, I can feel the skin in my armpit pull apart. Not like the skin is ripping or tearing, but rather the skin in the pit area is stuck together, then you can feel it separate. I’m not doing a very good job of explaining it, but it feels gross.
Now you may be wondering, “Well how often do you even raise your arms up in the air? It’s not like we walk around waving at people and giving high fives all day long. Is it really that big of a deal?” To which I would say, yes, I probably don’t raise my arms up all that much during the day. But I do exercise (almost) every day, and it really bugs me then. I never realized how often I lift my arms in a workout, until I could feel that “unstick” every time it happened. But it’s not really even just when you lift your arm up. It also happens whenever you extend your arm, or reach for something. All I know is this deodorant makes me very aware of my armpits, which is not what I want. I’m gonna have to give this deodorant a strike 2, and keep looking.
