JASON Body Products – Review

June 30, 2010

At the start of this year, I began switching all of my body care products to healthier versions, that do not contain the harmful toxins that are found in many products on the market today – propylene glycol, SLS, parabens, phthalates, artificial dyes, and synthetic fragrance. When researching brands, and shopping at my local health food markets, JASON is a brand I commonly see.

So far I have tried several JASON products, and wanted to do a quick review of what I’ve used:

  • Orange Cranberry Satin Shower Hand & Body Lotion: Ingredients include aloe vera leaf gel, sunflower seed oil, cranberry seed oil, orange fruit extract, lemon fruit extract, vitamin E, vitamin B5, davana flower oil, and a fragrance oil blend. It does not contain SLS, mineral oil, petrolatum, parabens, harsh chemicals, or animal byproducts. It is not tested on animals. Yet despite all that, I did not love this lotion. The fragrance was just alright, which disappointed me because I’m typically a citrus fan. The lotion was too runny as well.
  • Orange Cranberry Satin Shower Body Wash: Ingredients include aloe vera leaf gel, vitamin E, vitamin B5, cranberry seed oil, orange fruit extract, lemon fruit extract, davana flower oil, and a fragrance oil blend. It does not contain SLS, mineral oil, petrolatum, parabens, harsh chemicals, or animal byproducts. It is not tested on animals. I like this body wash. I thought it smelled good, and had a good consistency.
  • Tea Tree Scalp Normalizing Conditioner: Ingredients include tea tree leaf oil, vitamin E, vitamin B5, vitamin A, vitamin H, jojoba seed oil, avocado oil, aloe vera leaf gel, chamomile flower extract, horsetail leaf extract, nettle leaf powder, marigold flower extract, wheat protein, soybean protein, grapefruit seed extract, and fragrance oil blend. It does not contain parabens or animal byproducts. It is safe for color treated hair, and is biodegradable. It is not tested on animals. This conditioner did nothing for me. It did tingle a little, which was probably from the tea tree oil, but that was about it. I was never quite able to get a lather going, and felt like I had to use quite a bit to even get all my hair covered. It did not leave my hair feeling conditioned.
  • Naturally Fresh Deodorant Stick for Women: Ingredients include sunflower seed oil, cocoa seed butter, lavender extract, corn starch, witch hazel extract, green tea extract, natural vitamin E, lichen extract, and shea butter. It does not contain aluminum chlorohydrate, parabens, mineral oil, animal byproducts, or fragrance. It is not tested on animals. This deodorant did not work for me at all. I get that removing aluminum from deodorant essentially eliminates the antiperspirant part, but come on. There has got to be natural deodorant that’s more effective than this.
  • JASON Healthy Mouth Toothpaste – Tea Tree & Cinnamon: Contains CoQ10, tea tree oil, aloe vera leaf gel, silica mineral, neem oil, parsley extract, bamboo stem powder, perilla seed extract, grapefruit seed extract, cinnamon oil, menthol, and clove oil. It does not contain any preservatives or animal byproducts, but does contain fluoride (which I don’t care for since it is an aluminum by-product, and studies have shown it has a connection to Alzheimer’s and cancer).[1] It is not tested on animals. I did not like the flavor of this toothpaste. The cinnamon and clove combo left my mouth feeling spicy.
  • JASON Sea Fresh Toothpaste: Contains spearmint leaf oil, blue green algae, aloe vera leaf gel, bamboo stem powder, parsley extract, perilla seed extract, and grapefruit seed extract. It does not contain animal byproducts, and isn’t tested on animals. Both my daughter and I really like this toothpaste. It has more of the minty taste I prefer.
  • JASON Sea Fresh Tooth Gel: This is the gel version of the toothpaste I just reviewed, plus a few ingredients – sea salt, CoQ10, and vitamin E. It does not contain any saccharin, or animal byproducts, and is not tested on animals. It does contain fluoride though. I do not care for the consistency of this toothgel. I prefer the paste. Plus it doesn’t leave my breath as minty fresh as the paste version.
  • JASON PowerSmile Toothpaste: Contains peppermint oil, aloe vera leaf gel, bamboo stem powder, parsley extract, perilla seed extract, and grapefruit seed extract. The ingredients are actually very similar to the Sea Fresh toothpaste that I like – sans the algae, and one is spearmint vs. peppermint. It does not contain preservatives, or animal byproducts, and is not tested on animals. I like this toothpaste. Plus I have found it in travel size, so this is what I take when I’m on the road.
  • JASON Healthy Mouth Mouthwash – Tea Tree & Cinnamon: Contains grapefruit seed extract, Dead Sea salt, Ester-C vitamin C, with hazel extract, aloe vera leaf gel, perilla seed extract, neem seed oil, tea tree leaf oil, clove oil, menthol, cinnamon bark oil, golden seal extract, echinacea extract, marigold flower extract, and lemon balm leaf extract. It is alcohol and saccharin free, and is not tested on animals. I do not care for this mouthwash, which wasn’t all that surprising considering I didn’t like the accompanying toothpaste either.
  • JASON Sea Fresh Mouthwash: Contains grapefruit seed extract, blue green algae, Dead Sea salt, Ester-C vitamin C, witch hazel, aloe vera leaf gel, perilla seed extract, menthol, spearmint leaf oil, golden seal extract, echinacea extract, and marigold flower extract. It does not contain alcohol or saccharin, and is not tested on animals. I like this mouthwash, but my daughter doesn’t. I think the problem is she has grown up using products that contain saccharin and artificial flavoring, so is used to mouthwash being very sweet, which the healthy versions just aren’t.

So far it seems I have had the best luck with JASON oral care products. Now granted, my exposure to their lotion, deodorant, and hair care products is extremely limited, but so far I have only cared for some of their toothpaste. I do appreciate that they offer a healthy alternative to the toxin-ridden products out there though. I give them credit for that.

I bought Jason toothpaste and my mouth broke out. I did not know that the one I got contained floride. I am very upset over this and angry too as I COULD NOT FIND IT ON THE TUBE THAT LISTED INGREDIENTS.
