Avalon Organics – Body Products Review

August 26, 2010

In my search for body products that do not contain harmful toxins, I came across the brand Avalon Organics. I was visiting a friend in Fairfax, and at the time she was using their Vitamin C moisturizer. I tried it, loved it, and bought some when I got back home.

Avalon Organics logo says “Consciousness in Cosmetics” – which I love, and their slogan is “Pure beauty which honors the body and the world we live in” – love that too! Their promise is to create “Safe, natural, effective, pro-organic body care without artificial colors, synthetic fragrances, phthalates, parabens, or sulfates”. Sounds good to me! They focus on skin care, hair care, bath & body, and babies.

This is what I have tried so far:

  • Vitamin C Moisture Plus Lotion SPF15 – Ingredients include organic lavender extract, chamomile extract, white tea extract, organic arnica extract, organic sunflower seed oil, organic aloe vera, vitamin C, vitamin E, kelp extract, organic calendula extract, organic borage oil, flax seed oil, rose hip oil, organic coconut oil, and organic orange oil. The ingredients are 100% vegetarian, and it is not tested on animals. It claims to provide daily UV protection and hydration, plus defense against sun-aging free radicals. It is recommended for all skin types. This moisturizer has a great consistency, and smells really good too. It tingles and makes my skin feel refreshed.
  • Vitamin C Soothing Lip Balm – Ingredients include coconut oil, castor seed oil, candelilla wax, jojoba oil, rice bran wax, carnauba wax, aloe leaf extract, vitamin C, licorice root extract, vitamin E, rosemary leaf extract, soybean oil, apricot kernel oil, and wheat germ oil. The ingredients are 100% vegetarian, and it is not tested on animals. This chapstick, oh sorry, lip balm, goes on nice and smooth. I feel like it comes off easily though. It requires fairly frequent re-apps.
  • Nourishing Shampoo Lavender – Ingredients include coconut acid, organic lavender flower extract, organic calendula flower extract, organic chamomile flower extract, oat, arginine, pro-vitamin B5, vitamin E, organic lavender oil & other essential oils. This shampoo works really well, and smells great. I also like that they make it in travel size, as I am on the road quite a bit.
  • Nourishing Conditioner Lavender – Ingredients include organic sunflower oil, organic lavender flower extract, organic calendula flower extract, organic chamomile flower extract, oat, arginine, organic babassu seed oil, vitamin E, pro-vitamin B5, organic lavender oil & other essential oils. This conditioner is a great companion for the shampoo. Also comes in travel size.
  • Bath & Shower Gel Lavender – Ingredients include coconut acid, organic lavender flower extract, organic calendula flower extract, organic chamomile flower extract, arginine, pro-vitamin B5, vitamin E, organic lavender oil & other essential oils. This is a great shower gel, and it also comes in travel size. Love that!

Overall I am pleased with Avalon Organics. They have a far more extensive line of products than what I have tried, but I think they are worth checking out. (www.avalonorganics.com)

Yes! I’m a big fan of Avalon’s fragrance-free aloe lotion, and the FF olive/grape seed one as well. They’re thick enough to moisturize well and make my hands feel soft and silky, much more spreadable than a body butter, and non-greasy. Kind of a Jergens consistency. With the FF, I can use it with any perfume I might be wearing, and don’t have to worry about getting a fragrance headache. Good stuff!
