In my quest to switch to body products that do not contain toxic chemicals, the one area that has eluded me is deodorant. So far I have struck out twice. Once with JASON Naturally Fresh Deodorant Stick for Women, and then again with Kiss My Face Active Enzyme Deodorant. Well I have now tried a 3rd natural deodorant, and as much as I was hoping for a “third time’s the charm!”, it was more of a “3 strikes you’re out”.
This time around I tried Alba Botanica Clear Enzyme Deodorant Stick. It does not contain aluminum, propylene glycol, parabens, or preservatives. The ingredients are 100% vegetarian, and it is not tested on animals. Ingredients include: lichen extracts, green tea extracts, certified organic aloe vera juice, chamomile, ginseng extract, tea tree oil, and peppermint oil.
I was really hopeful for this deodorant, because tea tree oil has great antibacterial properties. It is a solid stick, but is clear, so that’s great. I like the smell of this deodorant too, because you can really smell the peppermint. But the bummer is how it feels. It left my armpits feeling sticky. And not sweaty sticky, but rather “I can feel my armpit skin sticking to itself” sticky. It’s sticky from the first moment you apply it. I’m not sure if this is a trait of enzyme deodorant, because this is the same problem I had with the Kiss My Face Active Enzyme Deodorant.
Either way, it’s back to the drawing board. Yet again.
