I just saw a commercial that I have to share. It was a Hillshire Farms commercial, and the slogan was “Go Meat!” Really? Really??? I mean, I’m not vegan, but even I’m disturbed by that. I just had an “Only in America, would a company choose that as their slogan” moment. But now I’m laughing even harder, because I just Googled Hillshire Farms, only to realize that their company URL is www.gomeat.com! Wow. They are committed!
The only problem is recent USDA research shows that the average American eats significantly too much meat – about 20% more than what’s recommended. And those recommendations aren’t exactly on the low-end to begin with. Back in March, Dr. Oz did a show where he featured his ‘Ten Commandments of Weight Loss’. Obesity has become an epidemic in this country, and one of his tips is: Thou shalt not eat meat that walks on four legs more than once a week. This is because meat that comes from animals with four legs is higher in saturated fat, than meat from poultry or fish. In addition, women who eat large amounts of red meat more than once a week have a 50% higher chance of getting heart disease, and have higher cancer rates as well.
But hey, “Go meat”!
