Eco-Friendly Makeup Brushes

November 15, 2010

In this month’s O Magazine, a set of eco-friendly makeup brushes was featured. The brushes are made by NVEY ECO, an organic cosmetics brand. Their makeup is formulated with a blend of plant and mineral ingredients, natural botanical extracts, and antioxidants. Their products don’t contain any propylene glycol, SLS, petroleum, talc, parabens, preservatives, or genetically modified ingredients. They do not test on animals, and their line is certified organic. In addition to cosmetics, they also make cosmetic brushes.

Their brushes are the world’s first compostable makeup brushes. The brush heads are made of cruelty-free synthetic fibers. The handles are made of corn resin, which breaks down to create soil fertilizers. When you’re ready to dispose of your brushes, you can either send them to NVEY ECO, or go to their website to find a compost center near you. If you mail them to NVEY ECO, they take care of the composting part, and then send you a coupon for 20% off your next purchase. Pretty cool!

I haven’t used these brushes, so am not sure if they are labeled on the handles. Unfortunately, their website doesn’t show the brushes separately, so also hard to tell which is which. But based on the brushes they sell, if you look at the picture I posted (which is from their website), I would say the brushes from left to right are as follows: powder, blush, foundation, brow comb, concealer, large shadow, small shadow, lip, and eyeliner. They sell the brushes individually and as a set. I just checked their website, and several of them are on backorder though. Hope this information helps!
