Seventh Generation Products – Review

November 9, 2010

Several times over the past year, I have mentioned the company Seventh Generation in various posts – ‘Body Products – Strike 1’, ‘Bye Bye, Blue’, ‘But I Love Clorox Wipes!’, ‘Can’t Banish the Baggie Beast Altogether’‘Found Replacement for Clorox Wipes!’, and ‘There’s Chlorine in Tampons?’. So I figure it’s time to review their products.

Seventh Generation is an independent, privately-owned company. The name is from a quote from the Great Law of the Iroquois Confederacy: “In our every deliberation, we must consider the impact of our decisions on the next seven generations.” Their mission is: “To inspire a more conscious and sustainable world by being an authentic force for positive change.” The following is taken from their website: “We believe our products are healthy solutions for the air, surfaces, fabrics, pets and people within your home–and for the community and environment outside of it. As a pioneer in corporate responsibility, we want our products to make a difference—from their development through to their production, purchase, use, and disposal.  We are always evaluating how to reduce their environmental impact, increase performance and safety, and create a more sustainable supply chain. We believe it is our responsibility to set a course for a more mindful way of doing business, where companies act as partners with other stakeholders to create a brighter future for the whole planet.” Can you see why I like these guys?!

My house is a Seventh Generation house. I use several of their products, on a regular basis. Here are the products you can find in my home at any given time:

  • Chlorine-Free Ultra-Thin Pads With Wings – I almost don’t want to tell you what these pads are made of, because it’s going to make them sound cra-zy. But trust me, they look exactly like any other pad you’ve ever used! Okay here goes, the absorbent materials consist of a combination of chlorine-free wood pulp, a natural polymer derived from wheat, and absorbent gel. They are whitened without chemicals containing chlorine, and are free of fragrance & dyes. *The removable peel strip is whitened with a substance containing chlorine, but they are working to eliminate this, so the entire product will be processed chlorine-free. The pads are individually wrapped. These pads are great for light-flow nights.
  • Chlorine-Free Overnight Maxi Pads With Wings – These pads are the same as the others, only bigger. Good for heavier-flow nights.

Wow. Now that I see it all written out in list form, I should be sponsored by them!

Here are some interesting factoids from Seventh Generation:
