Today I went skiing with my siblings at Alpine. We were going to be there all day, which naturally meant we would be eating lunch there, which left me wondering what I would eat. Hmmm. Is this going to be a problem? Is this really how it’s going to be? Do vegans really have to Bring Their Own Food wherever they go?
Just to ensure I would have something to eat, I brought along some fruit, trailmix, and one of my favorite packaged lunches from Trader Joe’s – their Spicy Lentil Wrap with Spicy Tahini Sauce. Yum! (Reason #538 why I love Trader Joe’s.) If you haven’t had this wrap before, you totally should. The wrap is tasty enough plain, but the dipping sauce is SO GOOD too. Well as it turns out, I didn’t need to bring my own lunch. Granted, there was nothing for me at 4 of the 5 food booths they had, but thankfully, the 5th booth was a Mexican food stand. I suppose I could have had a beans, rice, and veggies burrito. Good to know, for next time I’m there.
But it did get me wondering – is this a common issue for vegans? If you eat a vegan diet, what do you do when you’re going to be away from home all day – bring your own food, or trust that there will be something you can eat?
